The University of Cincinnati - Langsam Library Patio
Background
After several years of installing temporary living walls across the University of Cincinnati’s campus, Urban Blooms was thrilled to complete our first permanent installation there in 2018. Located on the patio of Langsam Library, the living wall was designed in close collaboration with the university’s Landscape Architect, John Martini, as part of a broader patio redesign. The project aimed to create a welcoming outdoor classroom environment while also enhancing campus biodiversity. The result is a living, learning space that continues to engage students and faculty alike.
Outcome
Urban Blooms designed and installed a custom 40-foot-long by 10-foot-tall living wall on the east-facing side of Langsam Library. Featuring 45 unique plant species, the selection was carefully curated for its native qualities and ability to attract pollinators. The wall blooms from early April through late September, while a hardy evergreen base provides texture and visual interest throughout the winter months. Celebrating all four seasons, this living wall has become a beloved photo spot and educational resource for students and faculty alike.
